China Unicon to Focus on 3G Smart Phone More than iPhone
BEIJING, Jul 19, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, and SHSE: 600050) has ordered about 108 types of mobile phones which are based upon WCDMA technology. With the assurance that development of iPhone business exceeded expectation, China Unicom took 3G business as new hope, and would enhance the construction of social distribution channel, said board chairman of China Unicom on July 18.
By now, 3G users of China Unicom have exceeded 24 million ones, and in terms of WCDMA, 10 million ones added during the first half of 2011. In China, about 81.89 million 3G mobile phones were sold by May 2011, and terminals based upon WCDMA technology took up 45% of the total figure.
The rapid development of 3G business of China Unicom benefits from the comprehensive usage of WCDMA 3G Internet and mobile terminals, especially iPhone. However, it seams not easy for China Unicom to make profit from iPhone.
China Unicom will focus on the comprehensive business and reinforce the cooperation with social channels. It now has attracted 5000 social channels and the sales revenue in e-commerce channel may exceed CNY 1 billion in 2011.
