The winter fisherman is the true sportsman, according to Steve Tyke of Whitehall, Washington County.
"Rain, snow, nothing is going to stop them. Maybe the mail won't go through and the planes won't fly, but the winter fishermen, old and young, 7 to 70, are gathering on the ice," he said.
As the owner of Tyke's Bait Shop on the southern tip of Lake Champlain for more than two decades, Tyke may qualify as an expert on ice fishing and the hearty outdoor types it lures.
