QLD: Cyclist hits car, helmet smashed to pieces
BRISBANE, April 22 AAP - A teenage cyclist's helmet was smashed into 15 pieces during an
accident with a car on the Sunshine Coast, police said today.
Police said the protective headgear probably saved the life of the 16-year-old Caloundra
boy, who was now in a serious condition in Nambour Hospital.
The teenager was thrown onto the bonnet of a car in the Sunshine Coast suburb of Little
Mountain just after 7pm last night.
He had ridden into the path of the vehicle while making a right hand turn at an
intersection, police said.
The teenager underwent surgery overnight and was today in a serious condition in the
intensive care unit.
