SACRAMENTO -- The state Senate Pro Tem will join California'sschools chief and the chancellor of the state community collegesystem for a live Internet town hall regarding K-14 educationfunding Thursday evening.
Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, willspeak with Tom Torlakson, state Superintendent of PublicInstruction, and Community Colleges Chancellor Jack Scott at 7 p.m.Thursday during a one-hour webcast. The public can submit questionsbefore and during the program at www.senate.ca.gov/steinberg.
The trio expects to discuss the state budget and how it affectspublic K-12 and community colleges throughout the state, includingthe Proposition 98 education funding guarantee. They plan to explorethe questions: "Are Californians willing to accept tax extensions tostabilize our schools?" and "Without additional revenue, willCalifornia be able to educate its children?"
The town hall is part of the Senate Democratic Caucus' budgetoutreach during budget negotiations.
